- "I'd love a better view"

The clients had purchased a generously proportioned three storey victorian townhouse and with four small children were eager to extend the property. However, they had wrestled with the problem that opening up the rear of the house to the garden as it was encumbered by the view out to a new housing development.
The key to unlocking this dilemma was to exploit the fact that the property was an end of terrace which gave us the opportunity to orientate the view out to the west with an open glazed corner. This also had the added advantage of offering a view of the setting sun into the extension.
The problematic view out to the rear was broken up with by dividing the rear façade into three sections the central section solid, the outer sections formed from two iroko glazed screens 2.8m high and 1.5m wide, both folding back onto the solid centre section. A structural glazed rooflight enhances the light to the rear reception room. Finishes are in limestone and iroko.
