"The whole appears greater than the sum of the parts"
Granville Road N4
This is true in many of the outcomes of these projects but particularly this one. The existing property had been 'cut-up' into a myriad of tight cellular spaces - for instance, the hallway was a lobby, a space at the base of the stair, then a route into the kitchen. Removing all the unnecessary walls and creating vistas both ways from the front to back let in the light and transformed the space, let in the light and created a tardis.
There are obviously techniques to help with this such as maintaining the same floor finish throughout so rooms don't appear separate they flow from one space to the next and maintain a visual connection.
A material palette of walnut stained oak flooring worktops in reconstituted stone, high laquered kitchen units and a decked area in hardwood with walnut stain to match the internal floors.
